The transition between spring and autumn for so many of us means a change in our skincare routine and a shift from pastel summer colours to the warm-toned hues in our makeup looks. Take a look at my top beauty picks so far for autumn to keep your skin hydrated and your eyes correlating with the fallen leaves.
1. Revlon Colour Stay Foundation (Natural Beige)
As the weather gets colder, I tend to get more dry patches and need to moisturise a little more than in the summer months. Unfortunately, I still have combination to oily skin and so need a foundation that's hydrating but also keeps my oils at bay throughout the day. This Revlon foundation provides medium to full coverage and keeps my skin feeling moisturised whilst tackling any oiliness throughout the day. Once applied and set with powder, this foundation lasted me a sweaty 10 hour shift without top-ups and didn't break apart on my nose or smile lines like other heavier foundations tend to do after a few hours wear. I think I've found my new go-to foundation for the foreseeable.
2. Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray
I love the Makeup Revolution setting spray (I mean, it smells like amaretto), but the Urban Decay All Nighter is undeniably the best setting spray I have ever used. It doesn't really smell of anything so you're not overwhelmed with a potent alcohol smell and once applied and allowed to dry, your face is not going anywhere, rain or shine. My foundation tends to break up along my hairline underneath my fringe if I get too warm but this spray prevents this problem and keeps my makeup on all day. It's a little pricier than the MR spray or other drugstore options but it's well worth the money and will protect your makeup from the dreary autumn weather.
3. Benefit Hoola Bronzer
Who says autumn is the death of the sun kissed look? If anything, bronzers are my saviour during autumn and winter to keep my face looking healthy and add a little dimension to the skin. In the autumn months, I've been shifting away from the shimmery, glowy bronzers and have been applying matte bronzers to add warmth to my face without that summer sun kissed appeal. Benefit Hoola is perfect for warming up the skin without making it look too orange or grey toned and applies without any patchiness. It blends seamlessly so you can add as much or as little as you like. This bronzer has been an absolute staple in my makeup bag this month and is yet to let me down. If you're looking for a good drugstore dupe, the Makeup Revolution Duo Face Sculpt powder is a similar tone to the Hoola and again, applies beautifully to the skin. I'd say that the MR powder is slightly more pigmented and is therefore more difficult to blend so I would recommend the Hoola over the Duo Face Sculpt, but both bronzers are the perfect tone, are matte bronzers and don't go patchy.
4. Just Coco Coconut Oil
Colder weather tends to cause more dry patches on my skin so I decided to invest in a coconut oil to apply before bed to hydrate my skin. For drier skin, I'd recommend using daily and nightly but as I have more oily to combination skin, I only apply the oil of a night and wash off before applying moisturising and applying my makeup for the day. I found this tub in Home Bargains for a couple of pounds but you can find jars of coconut oil in most supermarkets too, and it's never expensive. Apart from the amazing smell, the oil hydrates the skin, leaving a smooth base that feels fresh. It can be used all over your body, not just your face, and even your hair to rejuvenate dry ends. This multi-purpose product is an absolute must-have for me and since using it, my skin has actually cleared up a lot too. I thought using an oil could break out my skin but it's actually had the opposite effect!
5. Urban Decay Baked Heavy Metal Glitter
Get festive with glitter liners and pops of sparkle on the inner corners. Glitter and shimmery shades along the lower lash line are a massive trend this season so why not apply your favourite gold or bronze shimmer shadow to your lower lash line and top it with a glitter liner? Smoke out the outer corners with dark browns, black or other shades to compliment your eye look and embrace the fully glam eyes. The Urban Decay glitter liners have amazing staying power and, unlike loose pigments, don't require faffing around with makeup glue so they're easy to apply. The glitter fragments are extremely sparkly and add a bit of glamour to any look. You could even dab some across your cheeks for an extreme highlight inspired by the festival season to transition summer makeup into the festive season!
6. Sugar Baby Coconut Infused Lip Scrub and Balm
This coconut infused lip scrub and balm set is available at Superdrug for a matter of pounds and so far, has been an absolute life saver for my lips. I like to wear liquid lipsticks for longevity and opacity, but they can sometimes be a little drying, especially as the weather gets colder. Before apply lip products, I use the Sugar Baby lip scrub to get rid of any dry skin and create a smooth base for my lipsticks. The lip balm isn't an essential but does add a little more moisture to your lips if they're feeling particularly dry. The products are infused with coconut (have you noticed a theme) so they smell amazing and really hydrate your skin.
