This all started with that bloody middle aisle in Aldi. You know the drill: you go in for some milk and bread (and maybe to check out the flavoured gin collection) and end up leaving with a toaster, a lawn mower and a fan heater. On this occasion, I ended up getting a little distracted in the beauty section and decided to try out some Lacura products. Back in the day, the old-school Lacura foundation (I'll insert pictures below, for memories) used to be my absolute go-to because it was; a) cheap, and; b) it sounded a little bit like my name. It's actually quite comparable to the No.7 Beautifully Matte foundation, which is probably one of my top 5 bases, so I was getting an absolute bargain. I'm pretty sure they've discontinued the foundation I used to use but I thought I'd try out some of their other beauty products to see if they lived up to the foundation.
Lacura Expert Beautifying Serum
The first product I tried was the Lacura Beautifying Serum. The glass bottle feels way more expensive than the £3.99 I paid for it, which is kind of a running theme with the Lacura range. The packaging in general feels nice and weighty. It comes with a little syringe to drop the product onto your face, which I thought was a nice touch. The product itself is fast drying and leaves my skin feeling crazy smooth. It's not greasy like a moisturiser but I wouldn't recommend this serum to anyone with dry skin or requires a bit of extra hydration. It worked great on my oily-combination skin and didn't irritate it like a lot of other cheaper skincare tends to. All in all, I'd say it's worth a try if you're after an affordable serum to smoothen out your skin and eliminate those pesky oils.
Lacura Expert Double Effect Anti-Age Eye Gel
I'm sensing a bit of an anti-aging theme. I'm not paranoid about turning 25 this year. Honest.
I was instantly won over by the promise of reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and preventing the formation of new wrinkles. I wanting that 'instant lifting' effect everyone had been talking about. Like the beautifying serum, this glass pot felt more luxurious than the mere pounds I paid for it. The ingredients included caffeine, which I thought was a little odd for something I'd be smearing onto my face, but then I remembered reading something about a German shampoo containing caffeine that's supposed to make your hair looking healthy and shiny so perhaps it was a normal ingredient to use for beauty products. Plus, caffeine is intended to keep us looking awake so perhaps Aldi are onto something. This gel has a cooling effect on the skin, making me feel much more awake and refreshed. Like the serum, it's not greasy and dries down fairly quickly. Once again, this little gem of a bargain was a good find and a new staple in my skincare routine to keep my under-eyes looking bright and awake.

Lacura Exfoliating Mud Mask
Once again, a nice weighty product in sturdy packaging. After successes with the first two products, I had high hopes for this face mask. I applied a generous amount to my face and let it dry for 15 minutes before rinsing. The consistency is so unexpected for a face mask! It goes on smoothly like a thick cream and then drys down kind of gritty like an exfoliator. I'd suggest applying this before taking a shower to rinse it off, otherwise it kind of gets everywhere. Besides, these Neutrogena ads that advertise a splash-free rinse are delusional. You ALWAYS get your hair wet, which is so inconvenient if you've already washed it, and you always soak through your t shirt. Save yourselves the hassle and wash it off in the shower. Afterwards, my skin did feel smoother and exfoliated. Any dry patches of skin I've acquired due to the cold weather were eliminated so this face mask is another win for me. In total, that's 3/3 wins for the Lacura skincare range. I'll definitely be on the lookout for more of their products. WHAT'S GOOD ALDI?!
